The Jatson Chumig Welfare Special School in Lhasa, Tibet, is a non-profit, NGO, charitable institution run by Tibetans for handicapped, orphaned, and destitute children of Tibet. Since our founding in 1993, the school has been providing these children with a supportive, nurturing home (housing, food and clothes) and a basic education of six years. We also provide vocational job training, as well as entrance into middle school, high school and the University. It is our goal to give these children a future where there otherwise would not be one. |

 |
Jatson Chumig Welfare Special School has won awards for being "the most successful educational/orphanage program in Tibet" yet needs your financial support in being able to
remain a success.
It takes a lot of money
ALMOST $90,000 EURO/YEAR
to make this big a difference. |

Brief History of JCWSS:
In 1993, the government granted us the permission to open the school and with the help and hard work of our community, we were able to develop a large school. We offer three dormitories with house mothers, a restaurant, a shop, washing rooms, bathrooms, etc. for the students. The school also provides an on-site medical clinic, as well as special machines to be used in therapy for the physically challenged students.
The School is situated in the main city of Lhasa, Tibet. Lhasa is a city with an abundance of natural resources, rich culture, and is politically, socially and technologically developed. It is also one of the most popular tourist places in the world. However, due to not interacting with the outside world in the past, we have not kept up with the economic and technology changes in other countries.
There are thousands of orphaned, handicapped and poor people struggling hard for their livelihood. Most of them are in remote areas and poor villages. They face mental and physical problems coping with the outside environment. Keeping their hardships and hurdles in mind, we established this institution with educational and accommodation facilities and also to give vocational training by building one handicraft factory. Until now, the family of this institution has tried their level best to meet the needs of the members of this school, but we need your help to reamin a success for all Tibetans. |

Current Events:
Jatson Chumig is once again expanding. There is a need for more dormitories for our older students and to help supplement our rising costs, we are currently building the Jatson Chumig Home. This is a Tibetan Style Hotel, located on our campus, which will serve tourists and foreigners visiting Tibet. ... Soon, you will be able to link to see this fabulous pure Tibetan Hotel/Home, however, that is not currently available (construction is in progress). Check back to see when this will open. |

The Future at JCWSS:
The future looks beautiful! Our children are safe, happy and improving their lives everyday. Knowledge is Power and Jatson children improve their lives through education. Besides preparing the children in the classroom, we also recognize the fact that we must prepare our students vocationally to succeed as they become young adults. This is accomplished by the many handicraft workshops which help sustain Jatson Chumig Welfare Special School.
Our Handicraft Workshops and Jatson Home will only supplement our rising costs. We want you to know that your help, your generosity and your donations will allow us to continue to be successful. We offer the children a lifetime opportunity of education which can and will change their lives. We offer our handicraft employees an oppotunity to learn valuable skills and continue the Tibetan Arts of handmade crafts. Most of all, we offer hope ... hope to the Tibetan people. Jatson Chumig is a place of hope and dreams ~~~ you can help us in fulfilling this mission. Please consider making a donation to Jatson Chumig School. |

Guatemala SANA
Is a private Project of Dr. Rafael Espada, Vice President of Guatemala.
Vision: Improve the quality of life for the millions of rural children in Guatemala who do not have clean water, food to eat or the opportunity to get an education.
SANA stands for:
|
|
| |
 |
Salud:
Health…addressing the healthcare needs of the children particularly in rural areas.
|
|
| |
 |
Ambiente:
Environment…ensuring that all citizens have access to potable water and that the natural resources of Guatemala are preserved.
|
| |
 |
Nutrición:
Nutrition … malnutrition must be addressed; short-term programs involve feeding the children through centers in each municipality. Long-term programs involve teaching crop rotation, improved food harvest, etc. |
| |
 |
Acceso a la Educación:
Access to education. Education is a civil right. Child labor must cease and children must receive an appropriate education.
|
The concept is to integrate primary healthcare, nutrition and primary school education in a centralized location within the town; and provide clean water and sanitation. In effect, our schools become small community centers where both children and parents receive healthcare, nutrition and education.
We are working in the Department of Sacatepéquez. The towns were selected based on need, interviews with mayors and civic leaders, and evaluation of the current schools. In each of the selected Guatemala SANA schools we are:
• Performing basic repairs (painting, fixing ceiling leaks and bathrooms, etc.)
• Providing clean water supplies & water filters
• Providing sanitation drains
• Providing new stoves & refrigerators
• Setting up a 2-bed primary healthcare clinic
• Hiring a nurse to work in each clinic
• We also provide these services for the children in each SANA school: |
|
Physical and nutrition assessments
Ophthalmology exams (we have 700 pairs of eyeglasses donated to us for use)
Since Guatemala SANA is a 10 year project, each year we add something of value to our program. Next year, we will conduct dental and hearing exams for all of our chil dren.
A major concern is the malnutrition of these children. Guatemala has one of the worst malnutrition rates in this Continent affecting the physical and mental development of our children.
It is impossible for them to learn if they are not well nourished, therefore, Guatemala SANA provides supplemental food for these children.
By end of 2009 we will have enrolled over 12,000 students into the SANA program.
